Living with the Seasons
“In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.”
— William Blake
The seasons establish the rhythm of life on earth.
Everything we do matches the gifts of each period of the year.
Using the principles of regenerative agriculture, our pristine land is monitored carefully so we can understand what grows where and when.
That allows us to use seasonal grazing techniques to provide the highest-quality grazing year-round.
Adaptive Multi-Paddock Grazing That Changes with the Seasons
By combining rotational grazing methods with knowledge of how the seasons affect our land, we can work with the natural world. By being especially responsive to changes—using adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing management—we keep the balance through dry, wet, hot, and cold periods.
The benefits? Profound.
The quality of the food we produce radically increases while we reduce the amount of industrial inputs to zero. At the same time, we leave the beautiful land we’ve acquired healthier and more biologically rich than we found it. (1, PDF)
And the bigger implications are tremendous. Using short and long-term considerations in grazing management is promising to be one of the best ways we can combat climate change in agriculture. (2)
Building Soil 365 Days a Year
While conventional agriculture relies on a tremendous amount of carbon-based energy and industrial chemicals to keep producing single crops for as long as possible, regenerative agriculture works differently.
The seasons do more than bring a change in temperature. They also time phases in the soil's microbiome. We work with that system to align growth with times when nutrients are at their highest without exhausting them. (3)
Using the Seasons as Our Guide
Wild Grazing maintains pristine land by working with the natural cycles of life. A major component of this is the science of seasons and the art of living in sync with them.
